Roland Emmerich's latest end-of-the-world disaster flick dominated this past weekend with a $65.2 million gross. This marks Emmerich's second highest opening weekend, behind 2004's The Day After Tomorrow ($68.7 million). Opening in 882 theaters, Pirate Radio registered a tepid $2.9 million at #11. And Precious, expanding into 174 theaters, came in at #3 this weekend with $5.9 million (making for a very impressive $33,000 per-theater average).

Mania.com is reporting from reliable sources that Sam Raimi has begun casting Spider-Man 4, and that Rachel McAdams has met with the film's producers for a major role. Apparently, McAdams is a frontrunner for Felicia Hardy, aka Black Cat!
Even with four new movies in wide release, it was Precious, a film that opened in just 18 theaters, that managed to have the most impressive weekend. Although the film did not break the top ten, it pulled a very impressive $1.9 million for a per theater average of over $104,000. That average stands as the 12th highest on record. As the film expands in the coming weeks, it'll be interesting to see how much of this strong momentum will be retained.

The trailer for Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus has arrived! The film stars Heath Ledger, Johnny Depp, Jude Law, Colin Farrell, and Christopher Plummer. It opens in limited release December 25th.

The second trailer for Martin Scorsese's upcoming film, Shutter Island, is here. Shutter Island stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Michelle Williams, Max von Sydow, Jackie Earle Haley, Emily Mortimer, and Patricia Clarkson. Sadly, Shutter Island won't be coming to a theater near you too soon - Paramount recently delayed the film's release to February 19th, 2010.
